Rudy Ray Moore was an American comedian, musician, singer, actor, and film producer. He is best known for creating a character Dolemite from the film ‘Dolemite’ and its sequels, The Human Tornado and The Return of Dolemite. Rudy Ray Moore net worth before his death was $3 million.

Moore was born on March 17, 1927, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He then moved to Akron, Ohio followed by Milwaukee, Wisconsin in search of building his career. He preached in churches and worked as a nightclub dancer after he arrived in Milwaukee. After that, he returned back to Akron, working in clubs as a singer, dancer and comedian.

Moore then served a couple of years in the US Army in an entertainment unit in Germany. It was there he developed an interest in comedy. After his discharge from the Army, he lived in Washington and then Los Angeles, where he continued to work in clubs.

As a singer, Moore recorded blues songs for the Federal, Cash, Ball, Kent, and Imperial labels between 1955 and 1962. He also released his first comedy album titled ‘Below the Belt’ in 1959. Two years later he released another one named ‘The Beatnik Scene’.

It was in mid-1970 that Moore landed his name in an entertainment industry. He was best known for starring in the title role in the 1975 film “Dolemite” and its sequels “The Human Tornado” and “The Return of Dolemite”. The movie was produced on a budget of $100,000. It went on to earn a massive $12 million globally in 1975.

In addition to Dolemite, Moore also starred in movies like The Money Hu$tle, Petey Wheatstraw, Disco Godfather, B*A*P*S, Fakin’ da Funk, Big Money Hustlas, and Vampire Assassin. In October 2019, Eddie Murphy starred in a biopic based on the real-life of Rudy Ray Moore titled “Dolemite Is My Name” which was released by Netflix.

Ray Moore is also known for his biggest influence in rap. Famous rapper Snoop Dogg once said: “Without Rudy Ray Moore, there would be no Snoop Dogg, and that’s for real”. Moore appeared on Big Daddy Kane’s 1990 album Taste of Chocolate and 2 Live Crew’s album Back at Your Ass for the Nine-4.

Moore passed away on October 19, 2008, in Akron, Ohio because of complications from diabetes. He was never married.
